Making your own smoothies at home is all the rage right now, and for good reason. They make feeding your body all the nutrients it needs much easier and they can taste pretty good. Today I want to share my Super Charged Green Smoothie with Chia Seeds recipe.
I have been experimenting with chia seeds in my smoothie recipes. And yes, they are the same chia seeds that claimed fame as Chia Pets. They are amazing little seeds. 2 tablespoons of chia seeds have a whopping 5 grams of protein and 10 grams of fiber all for only 140 calories. You also get a nice dose of omega-3 fatty acids. That’s a biggie for me, I know I don’t get enough with the foods I eat so adding chia seeds is the perfect solution. They absorb 12 times their weight in liquid and as you digest them they slowly release water which helps keep you hydrated and makes you feel fuller longer. You don’t need to grind them like flax seeds. That makes them perfect to mix into all sorts of food.
1 cup baby kale and chard mix
1 cup baby spinach
8 ounces yogurt or low-fat milk
1 tablespoon almond butter
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 cup fresh blueberries (frozen)
I used the single serve cup on my Ninja blender
Add all the ingredients together except blueberries in the blender pitcher or blender cup.
Mix until blended. I pulse the single serve power button. Add blueberries and pulse to well blended.
That’s it! Nice color for a green smoothie. 🙂
