I was organizing my freezer and found some round steak that needed to be used. Round steak can be a little chewy so I like to prepare it in the slow cooker. I found a recipe in an old Betty Crocker cook book. I adapted the recipe using no processed foods.
Swiss Steak in the Crock Pot
1 1/2 pounds round steak, trimmed of the fat and cut into 6 serving pieces
salt, pepper and garlic powder
6 -8 yellow potatoes with skin left on cut into chunks
1 1/2 cups baby carrots
1 medium onion sliced
2 cups stewed tomatoes frozen from summer or 1 can stewed tomatoes undrained
2 cups homemade cream of mushroom soup, or you can use 1 can cream of mushroom soup
Spray a skillet with oil, heat over medium high heat. Sprinkle the meat with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Cook in skillet for 6 8 minutes, turning once, until brown.
layer potatoes
carrots
beef
and onion
mix tomatoes and cream of mushroom soup together and spoon over mixture
cover and cook on low setting for 7 hours or until meat and vegetables are tender.
It was really tasty and the round steak was fork tender. The gravy was nice and thick. Do you have any recipes for round steak that you like? My husband gave this one an A+
