I believe in trying to use every bit of everything I can. Not waste a thing, especially with the price of food now a days. Every little bit helps. Bacon fat has been used for years in cooking. My mom always saved her bacon grease. We don’t have bacon very often, even thought my husband would like it more often. One of us has to look after his health. 🙂 But when I do make bacon I use every bit, even the grease.
Fry up some bacon.
Using a strainer, strain the bacon grease into a jar or bowl.
Bacon grease will keep for several months when refrigerated. I remember when my mom would keep it in a can under the sink. I don’t recommend doing that now.
The bacon grease turns a milky white color. Use it to flavor foods just like you would butter. I love adding it to rice. It also tastes great for flavoring vegetables.
