Happy Friday!
Katie and I have been busy today. We made sour dough starters. We did 3 different types. Whole wheat flour, white flour, and half whole wheat and half white flour. We are doing a test to see of they act or taste any different.
I found a basic sour dough bread recipe at Practical-Stewardship. You make it in a dutch oven. Can’t wait to make it. I will show you how we made our starters. You only need a few basic items.
You need:
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup filtered water
glass jar
cheese cloth
wooden spoon
rubber band
Add flour to the glass jar. Choose which flour you want to use.
Add filtered water.
Mix flour with the filtered water in the glass jar. Stir with a wooden spoon. My wooded spoons are to wide to fit in the jar. I used the wooden stick that I use to take bubbles out of my jars when canning,
Cover with cheese cloth. Leave out on the counter and wait for 24 hours.
After 24 hours there will be a separation of liquid. Mix it up and add 1/4 cup flour and and 1/4 filtered water. Do this every day for 7 days and you have your sour dough start. It will be bubbly and have a sourdough smell.
I will updated this post in 7 days to show my sour dough starter and I will make some bread. Maybe you can join me and we can compare how we did.
Update: Day 3
We also cooked dry garbanzo beans. Next we are going to pick some fresh spinach from my patio pot garden and make a delicious spinach salad.
I will post the recipes over the weekend. Now we are going out and play 🙂
