Fall is officially here so here come the pumpkin recipes. I have 15 pumpkins from my garden this year. I still have to get them all cooked, pureed, bagged and frozen. It takes some work but is totally worth it.
All the local restaurants are advertising pumpkin spice everything. I had never tried pumpkin spice hot chocolate so I decided to try making it from scratch. It was very easy to make and very creamy. It is definitely worthwhile making at home. Beats the flavor of the pre-mixed hot chocolate hands down!
You’ll need:
1 cup milk
1/4 cup milk chocolate chips
1 teaspoon cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin puree
1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1/4 cup whipped cream
Cinnamon and nutmeg to sprinkle on top
In a saucepan over medium heat whisk together the milk, chocolate chips and cocoa powder.
Heat until chocolate chips melt and hot chocolate is smooth, it takes a couple minutes. Keep whisking so it doesn’t burn or stick to the bottom of the pan.
Stir in the pumpkin puree and the pumpkin pie spice until it’s well blended. Pour into two mugs and top with whipped cream. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
