I’ve been visiting Kings Island theme park since they opened in April 1972. I must admit I am a first time visitor to the Great Pumpkin Fest, where Charlie Brown, Snoopy and all the Peanuts gang are celebrating. I couldn’t wait to take my grandkids and Celebrate a “Not so Scary” Halloween at “The Great Pumpkin Fest“!
The Great Pumpkin Fest is on Saturday and Sunday in October. It starts at noon and ends a six. The park opens at eleven am and stays open until seven pm. My plan was to pick up the grandkids and get to the park by eleven so they could ride a few rides before the Great Pumpkin Fest starts at noon.
Well, it ended up with Katie being sick with a fever so only Tyler was able to go. He was a little reluctant going without his sister but went and he seemed fine…
When we arrived the crowds weren’t bad at all, yay! It was really neat how they covered the front of the park building to make it look like an old spooky house.
We walked down International street heading straight to Planet Snoopy where all the kid’s rides are located, Tyler remembered visiting in the summer. He’s five and not the most adventurous child, especially without his big sister. We let him decide what he wanted to ride and he chose a couple of his favorites.
We could tell it was getting close to noon because all of a sudden I noticed kids in costumes moving towards the splash park. At noon the gates opened and we walked down a walkway until we come upon a ghoulish looking lady handing out trick or treat bags. Tyler didn’t want anything to do with her so I grabbed his bag, I couldn’t wait to take Tyler to collect treats. I asked him if he wanted to put on his costume, he answered with a pretty firm “no”. Not a big deal, if that’s what he wanted to do that was fine. Once we moved more into the Pumpkin Fest the more excited I became and the more upset Tyler became. It ended up into a full blown melt-down like I’d never seen before. Tyler, not me, he can be pretty stubborn little fella… gets it honest. He decided in his head he wanted his mommy, and nothing else would do. I told him we would leave as soon as I took some pictures so I could share the fun with everyone on the blog. The kids are used to me taking pictures for the blog since I’ve been blogging for five years… Ty just kept crying. My husband said he would stay with him while I went and took pictures.
Sorry, my pictures aren’t the best but I was trying to hurry so I could take my grandson home to his momma. Let me just say, the great Pumpkin Fest was amazing and I wish Katie would have felt better, she would have loved it. I hated not being able to stay and enjoy it more but the other kids looked like they were having a ball, and that’s what it’s all about!
There were plenty of meet and greet picture opportunities.
The Great Talking Pumpkin gave out treats.
There was Trick or Treating all through the Pumpkin Fest.
They even had seasonal goodies like Caramel Apples and an Ohio favorite, Peanut Butter Buckeyes.
Old fashioned festival games for the kids to play. One dollar to play.
The kids were having a ball running around in all the bubbles in Linus’ Foamtastic Presented by TWIZZLERS.
Schroeder’s Play Puzzles, giant games for the kids to play, like checkers and chess.
