I’ve always been big on nutrition and exercise as part of my everyday life. Always fascinated by how our bodies and minds function. As a teenager, I would cut out articles and make my own health and fitness scrapbook. When my children enrolled in school I went to work in school food service. I was the general manager of a local catholic high school. I loved it. I worked on my feet most of the day. Once I started working for the chiropractor I worked at a desk and sat more than I ever have in my life. Listening and watching the doctor work with patients these last 16 years I have learned how to stay healthy and promote wellness for others. It’s something I enjoy doing every day.

  1. Water, drink lots of water all day long. I keep a glass full of water next to me the whole time I’m working. After lunch. I make sure I drink more water. It helps keep me from getting into a midday lull. Mid-day fatigue  can be because your body is dehydrated. If you feel thirsty you are already getting dehydrated. Drink water before you get thirsty.

At lunch make it a healthy lunch full of fresh vegetables, fruits, and proteins. I love a good peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch. Did you know that good eating habits can increase attention span, improve memory and boost overall well-being?

3. Don’t sit in one position all day. You should get up and stretch at least once every hour. If you’re like me and sit at a desk in front of a computer all day, do what I did, I elevated my computer so I can stand while I’m working. I created my own elevated workstation. It’s not the most beautiful thing in the world but it helps keep my back and neck healthy. I think I will get a couple of prettier boxes. Now that I look at my picture I think I need a couple replacements. 🙂

4. The workspace can be filled with germs, especially the computer keyboard and phone. Keep a disinfectant on hand for quick wipes of work surfaces. Everyday I wipe off my keyboard, phone, counters, doorknobs etc… I also wash my hands as soon as I get to work and as soon as I get home.

5. Get up, grab your sneakers and head out for a walk at lunch, even if it has to be a quick walk. Walking and exercising boosts your energy and you attitude. Get together with a friend or co-worker and walk together at lunch. Just get moving! Living a secondary lifestyle impacts your health and productivity.
